Want to get your family or friend gathering off to a spicy start? Try my son Phil’s Jalapeño poppers. Our family always requests this appetizer whenever we get together.
I recently discovered that jalapeño peppers are easy to grow, and they easily get to a great size for these poppers. They are easy to find – I bought mine in the garden section of Loews. You can also buy them by the bag in the grocery store – just be sure to get large ones.

Spicy Jalapeño Poppers
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 16 large jalapeños
- 8 oz. brick of cream cheese
- 1 lb. bulk sausage - like Jimmy Dean
- 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
- 8 strips bacon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400℉
- Cut each jalapeño in half, lengthwise. Remove seeds and save.
- Fry the sausage and drain on a paper towel.
- Mix in a bowl, cream cheese, sausage and cheddar cheese. For extra spicy poppers, add some of the reserved seeds.
- With a teaspoon, put the cream cheese mixture in each shelled out jalapeño pepper.
- Wrap the jalapeño popper in 1/2 piece of sliced bacon. Secure with a toothpick.
- Place on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil. Bake for 30 minutes at 400℉.

Notes
Since these poppers are spicy, they pair well with sparkling wine.
