Quick Meat and Tomato Pasta Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 cups red onion diced
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1/2 pound ground sirloin
- 1/2 pound ground sausage
- 1 28 oz canned fire roasted crushed tomatoes
- 2 ½ Tbsp Italian seasonings
- 3/4 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper freshly ground
- 1/3 cup red wine
- 1 pound pasta
- parmesan cheese freshly grated for topping
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large fry pan over medium heat.
- Add onions and sauté for 5 minutes or until soft.
- Add garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
- Remove onion and garlic from pan.
- In the same pan, cook sausage and beef until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Drain the grease.
- Add the tomatoes, seasonings, wine and onion mixture to the meat in the fry pan.
- Cook on low for approximately 5-10 minute.
- Prepare pasta according to package.
- Pour sauce over pasta and top with parmesan cheese.
Notes
This recipe is very flexible. If you don't have both sausage or beef, just use 1 pound of what you have. Regular canned tomatoes also work well if that is what is in your pantry. A combination of spices such as rosemary, oregano, thyme, etc. can be used instead of Italian seasonings. This recipe freezes well.
